At 07:55 Eng-11, Med-6, Lad-1(extrication) and RS-1 responded to and MVA in the 1400 block of Bennington ST. on the bridge. Upon arrival M-6 personnel assessed the situation and found a head on collision with entrapment. Med-6 requested an additional engine (Eng-6), Engine 5(extrication) and two more medic units (Med-2 and Med-1).
Engine 6 arrived on scene and established command. Ladder 1 began extricating the driver of the van, Engine 11 stretched a 1 ¾ line and Engine 5 began extricating the driver of the car. Both drivers had multiple fractures of the lower body and were GOLD alerts. Two children in the van were not seriously hurt. All patients transported to Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
