Emporia, Virginia Fire Apparatus Profile – by Mike Sanders
The Emporia Volunteer Fire Department is located just off of I95 not far from the Virginia and North Carolina state border. The department operates out of one station and protects the citizens of Emporia as well as responding to emergency calls in Greensville County, Virginia.
The fire department was chartered in 1935 and moved into a new station in 1997 that has four drive through bays.
A variety of apparatus run from Emporia:
Engine 31- a 2005 Pierce Contender equipped with a 1500 gallon per minute pump, 1000 gallons of water, and 10 gallons of foam.
Engine 32 – the department’s oldest engine, a 1988 Spartan/FMC with a top mount 1500 gpm pump and 1000 gallons of water.
Engine 33 – a 1999 Freightliner 112 built by Pierce. Engine 33 has a 1500 gpm pump and holds 1,250 gallons of water.
Tanker 34 – a 2003 Freightliner 112 also built by Pierce. The tanker holds 2,000 gallons of water and is equipped with a 1250 gpm pump.
Ladder 36 – a 75’ 1996 Emergency One also equipped with a 1500 gpm pump and holds 500 gallons of water.
Brush 35 – a 2002 Ford F350 with a 300 gallon water tank.
Utility 38 – was purchased from the South Hill, VA fire department and is an unusual 1989 Ford Cargo with a Hackney body. It is equipped with a command module.
Utility 39 – is a 1989 Ford F350/Reading.
Future apparatus plans include a heavy rescue squad.

Great fleet guys! A lot of positive changes have occured at EVFD since I left in 88. Keep up the good work, and I hope you get the rescue soon.
