SUFFOLK — I-664 North at the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel was closed for about two hours Monday afternoon following three crashes involving ten vehicles inside the tube.

Around 3:45 p.m., a tractor trailer loaded with peanuts and a Chevy Camaro collided, causing eight other vehicles to crash behind them, according to Virginia State Police.

Sgt. Michelle Cotten says the driver of the Camaro had to be cut from the vehicle and was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center. Two children in the car weren’t hurt, she added.

i was in the middle of this entire shit storm. there was actually another accident ahead of the semi that caused the entire mess. a green car in the right lane was rear ended by a white car. the green car made it out of the tunnel ok but caused the left lane to come to a sudden stop to allow traffic from the right to pass. after a lot of skidding tires, screeching brakes, and close calls the semi on the right just didn't have time to stop and from that point on all you heard was one crash after another.
