Bush to honor Chesapeake firefighter

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) – A Chesapeake volunteer firefighter who also is an emergency medical technician, Cub Scout leader and naval petty officer is getting a presidential honor.

President George W. Bush plans to present Jesse Alvarado with the President’s Volunteer Service Award on Saturday in Norfolk.

Alvarado was the Chesapeake Fire Department Auxiliary’s 2007 rookie of the year. He responded to more than 200 calls.
