Around 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 6 Colonial Heights Fire and EMS was dispatched to the 700 Block of Forestview Drive for a house fire.
Firefighters discovered heavy fire conditions in the attic and rear of the house.
The residents had escaped the fire prior to emergency units arriving.
Officials said there were no injuries and it took firefighters about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.
Even with fast response by the fire department, the house sustained major damage to the roof and rear wall. Firefighters remained on scene for several hours conducting salvage and overhaul operations. Chesterfield Fire assisted at the scene. Petersburg and Fort Lee Fire Department provided fire coverage for the City. The home did have working smoke detectors. An investigation is continuing, but electrical problems have not been ruled out as a cause. Estimated damages are not known at this time.
