Apparatus Profile – Farmville Fire Department

While on leave from SC visiting my parents in Keysville, I decided to drive up to Farmville and pay their fire department a visit.

The Farmville FD provides services to the Town of Farmville, Virginia and to the surrounding areas in portions of Prince Edward, Cumberland, and Buckingham Counties. Farmville is home to Longwood University, Green Front Furniture, Southside Community Hospital and the Farmville Regional Airport.

The Department’s 45 volunteer members provide fire suppression, education, and prevention services to the nearly 10,000 people in their first due area from the station located in downtown Farmville. In addition, the department’s Special Operations Unit, the only one of its kind for nearly 50 miles, provides response to and mitigation of incidents involving hazardous materials, suspected terrorist or criminal activity, and when specialized services are requested by other agencies.

Farmville FD has 8 frontline units and 1 antique pumper on it’s roster.

Engine 1-1 – A 2001 Pierce Quantim with a 6 man custom cab (with Firecom communications system) and a 400 HP Cummins diesel engine powering a Hale 1250 GPM, top-mount pump. It contains a 750 gallon tank and a Husky foam system utilizing both class A and B foam. It has 3 preconnected attacklines and 1200′ of 4″ supply line. Other equipment includes a Harrison hydraulic generator, 3 500W search lights and 2 200′ electric cord reels. It also has a top mount ladder rack installed.

Engine 1-2 – A 2007 Pierce Quantum with a 6 man custom cab (with Firecom communications system) and a 512 HP Detroit diesel engine powering a Hale 1750 GPM Pump. It contains 1000 gallon tank and a Husky 12 foam system sporting a 30 gallon foam tank. It has 4 preconnected attack lines and 1200′ of 4″ supply line. In addition to a deck gun, it also carries a Blitzfire portable monitor. Other equipment includes a 1600W inverter and 3 500W search lights. It also features top-mounted hatch compartments and rear ladder storage.

Truck 1 – A 2005 Pierce Quantum carrying a 105′ ladder. It has a 6 man cab and a 450 HP Cummins diesel engine powering a Hale 1750 GPM pump. It contains a 270 gallon water tank and a 30 gallon foam tank. It carries 4 preconnected attack lines and 600′ of 4″ supply line. Other equipment includes a Harrison 10KW hydraulic generator, 8 500W search lights, 2 200′ electrical cord reels, a 6000 PSI SCBA air cascade and a Warn 12K lb front-mount winch. Truck 1 also features all wheel steering.

Brush 1-4 – A 1980 GMC 3500. It features a 250 gallon tank with a skid mount pump. In addition it carries a chainsaw, booster line, forestry line and assorted wildland tools.

Tanker 1-5 – A 1995 Pierce tanker on a Freightliner chassis. It contains a Cummins diesel engine powering a Hale 1000 GPM, two-stage pump. It contains a 1250 gallon tank. It carries 3 preconnected attack lines, 1 trash line, 600′ of 2 1/2″ supply line and 600′ of 4″ supply line. It also sports a front intake. Other features include a diesel generator and an electric rear dump valve.

Utility 1 – A 2005 GMC 2500

Engine 2 is an antique 1940 Ford pumper. It is used for all types of events from parades to funerals.

Also on the roster, but not pictured are Chief 1 (1999 Chevrolet Tahoe) and Special Operations 1 (trailer containing HAZMAT supplies).
