Roanoke Fire-EMS Responds to McDowell Ave. Fire

On February 25, 2009 Roanoke Fire-EMS responded to a fire at 709
McDowell Ave. The response of 2 engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 medic
unit, 1 EMS Captain and 1 Battalion Chief for a total of 13 personnel
responded to the scene. The call was received in the E-911 Center at
approximately 10:38 p.m. and was ruled under control by 11:05 p.m.

When crews arrived they found smoke coming from the structure. Crews
entered the house and found a dryer on fire in the laundry room.
They quickly extinguished the fire and removed the damaged dryer and
burnt clothes. They then ventilated the house to help remove the
smoke.

There were five people in the house when the fire started. They
escaped without any injuries. There were no injuries to civilians or
Fire-EMS personnel.

The fire has been ruled accidental and was caused by the dryer. The
fire was contained to the dryer. Damage estimates are approximately
$900.
