Tones sounded announcing a brush fire on Second Branch Road at River Road on Feb. 10 around 4 p.m.
Chesterfield crews were already on scene about 5-6 miles away battling a four acre brush fire on Kimlynn .
Winds were rough and gusts 30-50 mph seemingly took the fire and ran with it, spreading it.
Crews arrived on scene at Second Branch and discovered thick forest and a fire that was back in the woods about 2 ½ miles from the main road. It wasn’t going to be easy.
The road was narrow making it difficult for apparatus to get near the fire.
In addition to the initial response, crews were dispatched from KImlynn to assist and the call was upgraded.
Stations that sent crews and apparatus were: Phillips, Chester, Winterpock, Cloverhill, Bon Air, Midlothian, Enon, Manchester at Courthouse, Mobile Command Center, Forestry with a dozer, multiple battalion chiefs, the division commander, two safety officers and the PIO.
Between 8-10 acres were burned. All homes surrounding the area were protected. No injuries were reported.
The cause is under investigation.
