Fire Destroys Home in Roanoke County

May 2, 2009 (ROANOKE COUNTY) — Fire Investigators are on scene trying to determine what caused a fire that started this morning in South Roanoke County.

Roanoke County Fire & Rescue was dispatched to the 8000 block of Starlight Lane for a reported structure fire around 9:30 a.m. When fire crews arrived they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the left side of a wood framed single story house. It took career and volunteer fire crews from the Clearbrook, Cave Spring and Vinton stations about an hour to get the flames under control. There is heavy fire damage to the entire house and it will most likely be considered a total loss.

There was one adult woman home at the time of the fire and she escaped without injury and called 9-1-1. Her two cats have not been accounted for. The Red Cross has been called to assist the woman who lived in the home.
