The Greene County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy was killed in a crash Thursday afternoon.

The crash, involving a tractor trailer, occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Route 230 near Standardsville.

Both the deputy’s car and the truck caught fire.

Virginia State Police say an investigation into the crash in ongoing. Officials say they think the deputy was in the eastbound lane of Route 230, just north of Dundee Road when his vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway.
