Firefightersmake the move: The Volunteer Fire Department – “The Deuce” — rolled all its equipment from the old station on North Maple Avenue to the corner of Hirst Road May 31. The Rescue Squad moves June 6.

Company 2 combines volunteer and county-paid personnel. Two crews of career firefighters are on duty from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. They are responsible for the first engine and tanker or the ladder truck during daytime hours. Volunteers deploy any additional equipment that is called for. Night-time calls are handled by all-volunteer crews.

Company 2 — the fire department — was founded in 1923 on South 20th Street. It moved to larger quarters on North Maple in 1964.
