NEWPORT NEWS – Emergency crews battled a house fire in Newport News for more than two hours Monday after an explosion in a garage set off the blaze.
Dozens of firefighters were able to contain the fire in the garage and the room above at the property on Reynolds Drive to salvage the rest of the home.
Efforts to extinguish the blaze, however, were hampered by ammunition that was discharging in the garage, said Deputy Chief Scott Liebold.
