IAFF Local 2450 President Chris Kenney presented a Birthday Card of another sort this yesterday afternoon on behalf of the membership. It contained a check in the amount of $500.00. The gift was used to raise money for the Hampton police department K-9 corps to obtain bullet proof vests for the protection of their dogs.
The Hampton Professional Firefighters were one of a few organizations to help with Sunshines’ Birthday party, she raised $3,000.00 dollars at the event which will be used to purchase 6 vests for the animals. There was a strong presence at Gosnold Hope Park by the Hampton Police Department K-9 corps, Hampton Professional firefighters, the public, and family and friends.
“The vests are expensive” said President Kenney “and any time we can help a little girl with big dreams, reach for the stars; we are going to try and help if we can. Helping our brothers in blue stay safe at any cost is a noble goal….no matter how many legs they have”
