The Pearisburg Volunteer Fire Department in Giles County, VA. recently purchased, thru a competitive bid process, a KME Predator Rescue Pumper from Slagle Fire Equipment Co. Inc. of South Boston, Virginia.

pearisburgThe KME Predator XMFD chassis cab features the latest in crash and roll-over protection features as well as five air pack seats and 8 seats overall. Enhanced chassis and body electrical features and troubleshooting capabilities are provided by the Class-1 multiplexed electrical system with built-in modem for remote diagnostics. The apparatus is powered by a Detroit Series 60, 470 horse power engine with an Allison EVS4000 automatic transmission.

The pumping system includes a Waterous Model CSU-C10-1250 gpm single stage pump with a Foam Pro 3012 hydraulic PTO powered Class A & B firefighting foam system to assist in fire suppression. The driver and officer side pump panel areas along with the two (2) vertically stacked transverse speedlay hose bed areas are located in the forward enclosed rescue style body compartments. This affords protection for these components as well as additional storage space.

To supply the pump and foam system, there is a 650 gallon water tank along with a 30 gal. Class A and a 20 gal. Class B integral foam tank. To refill the foam tanks, there are 12 volt electric foam refill pumps provided for both classes of foam.

pearisburg5An electric rewind cord reel, and (2) 750 watt removable tripod halogen flood lights on the rear are powered from the on-board 15,000 watt Harrison PTO/ Hydraulic Generator system. There is also a 220 volt electrical hookup in the officer side rear compartment for a future electric hydraulic rescue tool pump.

The overall length of the truck is 31’ and has full height and full depth body compartments on both sides of the body. A “sta-dri” hopper for approximately 100 lbs. of oil absorbent is located in the rear driver side coffin compartment with the output routed to the lower body compartment area for filling buckets during spills.

The customer specified items to be carried in the compartments and KME customized compartment shelving, trays, tool boards, etc. to result in the body compartment layout being very functional for the fire department’s immediate and future needs.

Slagle Fire Equipment Co, Inc would like to thank Chief Rusty Stump and the members of the Pearisburg VFD for the purchase of their KME Rescue Pumper.
