By Nate Camfiord

The Dale City Volunteer Fire Department recently celebrated the grand opening of their new firehouse, located on Dale Boulevard in eastern Prince William County. Station 10 (Edgar B. Van Horn station) replaces the departments aging firehouse, and is situated approximately 1/4 of a mile west of the original facility. The station is equipped with many distinct features, including “DC style” folding bay doors, a fire pole, a slide, along with a separate bay exclusively dedicated to showcasing the departments rich history and housing the departments historic Hahn engine.

The new station houses Engine 510 (Pierce Rescue Engine), Engine 510B, Rescue 510, Tactical Support Unit 510, Ambulance 510 and 510B, as well as Utility 510.

Station 10 is one of four stations owned and operated by the Dale City Volunteer Fire Department. Each firehouse is equipped with an Engine and Ambulance/Medic Unit. In addition the department also operates a Tower Ladder (513), Heavy Rescue (510), Tactical Support Unit (510), Brush Truck (518), an all terrain rescue vehicle (520) as well as an elaborate REHAB Unit (520). The department also houses a 24 hour county Paramedic unit out of FS20. Prince William County DFR provides staffing from 0600-1800 hrs Monday-Friday. Volunteers are responsible for staffing units on nights, weekends and holidays.

The DCVFD is consistently one of the busiest and most active volunteer fire organizations in the state. In 2005, the units owned and housed by the Dale City Volunteer Fire Department had more than 20,000 runs.
