Emporia, Virginia in Greensville County is taking a step up in replacing their rescue truck…..and quite a step.
Emporia is located just off of I95, near the North Carolina border.
The fire department has been running a 1989 Ford F350 with a Reading body as their rescue truck. Designated Unit 39, it has served the department well but was small for what the department desired. With the arrival of a new heavy squad, Unit 39 will be retired.
Recently delivered to Emporia is Truck 3, a large 2009 Pierce Impel with an Encore rescue body. Truck 3 can carry six firefighters and has plenty of compartment space to carry tools and equipment. In addition to extrication equipment, Truck 3 has a light tower, a 25kw generator, and an awning that runs the length of the squad body on the driver’s side.
The Emporia Volunteer Fire Department’s apparatus has been previously featured on vafirenews.com. Featured in November of 2008, Emporia was one of the first department’s profiled on vafirenews.com. You can still see their current apparatus under “Apparatus” and “Apparatus Profiles”.
