VIRGINIA BEACH — Sometimes, you just know what you’re meant to do in life.

That’s certainly the case for Bill Burket, who was honored this week for 30 years of firefighting in Va. Beach.

He became a volunteer junior fireman at age 15 and was hired fulltime when he was 19.

“It is the excitement of the job. When you pull on a scene, the unknown a little bit, what you are going to have to deal with. Think off your feet a little bit, but with all the training, knowledge replaces fear,” he said Monday.
