House Fire in Fairfax County

Submitted by Arturo Soriano Jr.

As station 411 Penn Daw of Alexandria in Fairfax County; were running a Fire prevention activity sponsored by Fairfax County. Engine 411, engine 205 (city of Alexandria), Engine 405 (Franconia) and Battalion 405.  Were called to the 5600 block of Norton rd to a single family dwelling fire. Engine 411 was the first due engine and determined that it was a single story, single family with heavy smoke coming from side delta and evacuation was in progress.  Engine 405 was the second due and Battalion 405 arrived 2 minutes after and set up Norton Command.

Engine 205 was the 4th due engine at 15:18, medic 411 at 18:19. Engine 411 found fire on the wall down to the floor with an extension to the attic. Rescue 411 found visible smoke coming through the HVAC registers from the floor on side alpha quadrant.

Rescue 411 went inside the crawl space with a hand line to a fire burning through the floor joists on alpha quadrant then engine 411 got ready with the chain saw to cut through the floor as soon as rescue 411 got clear from under the crawl space. Once the fire was knock down engine 411, engine 405, truck 411, medic 405, and rescue 411 stay while all other units went back in service. Battalion 211 was also on this incident. Apparently the homeowner a Korean War veteran and avid Cadillac auto restoration expert tried to put the fire out and the fire kept on coming back, then he decided to call 911. He had just recently gone to an auto show and was not going to be home this Saturday but somehow he decided to come home a day earlier. All the neighbors are actively supporting the Korean War veteran, wife and pets.

Does anyone copy edit this stuff? This isn’t a forum, this is a news website!

  • Bob,

You are absolutely correct. We are working on our criteria for submissions, quality of photos submitted, and details submitted. This will be incorporated in the all new VAFireNews.com version 3 coming out soon!

What is wrong with that submissions. Is it too long and detail?
I think it is very informative if you are wondering what happened on that fire.
