Extrication with Flyout for Carrsville VFD

Submitted by Kevin Duck

On Saturday November 7, 2009 at approximately 1100 hours the members of the Carrsville Volunteer Fire Department were busy preparing for their annual Turkey Dinner Fundraiser. Preparations were interrupted for a reported overturned vehicle with injuries on Carrsville Highway. Engine 20 and EMS 20 were dispatched to the scene and arrived to find the lone occupant of the vehicle still entangled in the wreckage. The vehicle had been traveling West on Carrsville Highway and left the road to the left and overturned multiple times in a soybean field. It is not believed that the occupant was belted. Due to mechanism of injury and obvious signs of a head injury, Nightingale Air Ambulance was dispatched to that landing zone at the fire station. After a short extrication, the patient was transferred to Franklin Medic 4 and then transported to the Carrsville Fire Station LZ. Nightingale was landing as the medic pulled into the station. The patient was transferred to Nightingale for transport to Norfolk General Hospital.
