House Fire in Roanoke

On Tuesday, November 10, 2009, Roanoke Fire-EMS responded to a small
fire at 645 Day Ave. The call was received in the E-911 Center at
approximately 7:28 a.m. and was ruled under control by 7:38 a.m. The
response of 2 engines, 2 ladder trucks, 1 medic unit, 1 EMS Captain
and 1 Battalion Chief for a total of 16 personnel responded to the
scene.

When crews arrived they found a two story residential house with
light smoke on the second floor and a back bedroom full of smoke.
The fire was found on the floor where a smoldering pillow was lying.
The pillow and carpet were extinguished with very little fire damage
except to a small part of the carpet.

There were 11 people in the house when the fire started. They escaped
without any injuries. There were no injuries to Fire-EMS personnel.

The fire was caused by smoking. It started on a bed pillow and was
contained to a small part of the carpet. Damage estimates are
approximately $200. No one was displaced by this fire.
