Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire Sunday, December 20, 2009, at approximately 11:25 a.m., in the Annandale area of Fairfax County. The single family home is located at 7409 Annanwood Court.
Firefighters encountered fire and smoke coming from the rear of the two-story home upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an interior attack and brought the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the kitchen and dining area of the home. The occupants, an adult female, and two female teenagers escaped the home. The adult was transported to Fairfax Inova Hospital for non-life threatening injuries as a result of attempting to put out the fire. Several cats also escaped unharmed. All the occupants have been displaced. Red Cross assistance was not needed by the occupants.
Damage is estimated at $75,000.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. Combustibles too close to an operating burner on the cooktop caused the fire.
