Henrico Division of Fire personnel learned of a need in their community, Henrico’s Christmas Mother was facing a shortage of some items to give to needy families.
Without hesitation, Henrico Division of Fire swung into action.
First on their plate was BBQ, a dinner that is, was held and items also sold. Division members showed off their culinary skills and cooked the BBQ themselves.
“Around $1,200 was raised from the BBQ event.” Captain Chris Buehren said.
The next project was a huge undertaking, the Christmas Mother program was short nearly 1000 jars of peanut butter and that meant families would do without.
Once again Henrico Division of Fire shifted into high gear, teamed up with Henrico Police and Henrico Emergency Communications to obtain jars of peanut butter. In less than a week, Buehren said 1400 jars were collected and presented to the Christmas Mother program.
On Dec. 12 a special pancake breakfast was held and children could get their picture taken with Santa. The pancakes were a hit with families and so was Santa who proudly arrived on a fire truck. The pancake breakfast raised around $1,000 which was donated to the Christmas Mother program also.
