National Fire Academy In-State Weekend
February 20 -21, 2010
The Virginia Department of Fire Programs and the Germanna Community College will conduct an NFA In-state Weekend on February 20th and 21st, 2010.
Registration Fee:
There is NO registration fee.
Registration:
Registration will be done through the VDFP Division 7 office and/or online. Registrations received will be processed on a “first come, first served basis”. Registration ends January 20, 2010.
Check In and Opening Exercise:
All students must check-in at the Germanna Community College – Culpeper Area Campus between 7:00 AM and 7:30 AM. Opening exercises will begin promptly at 7:30 AM. Classroom assignments will be provided at the conclusion of the opening exercises.
Books:
Books will be available for purchase and pick up after students check-in at registration. Cash or checks will only be accepted for the amount of purchase for any books.

Class Descriptions
NFA Introduction to Wild land/Urban Interface Firefighting for the Structural Company Officer (F-610) Instructor: Allen Thomason
Description: This 2-day course identifies operational activities and safety concerns for structural Company Officers assigned to a wild land urban interface incident. Topics covered include introduction to wild land urban interface firefighting, interface environment, wild land fire behavior, command and control issues of wild land urban interface firefighting, and tactics.
Target Audience: Company Officers or chief officers who may be in command of a single resource or Strike Team at the scene of a wild land urban interface incident.
Prerequisite: ICS-100-level and ICS-200-level training. Preferred courses are Q462 and Q463 available through NFA Online at www.nfaonline.dhs.

NFA Training Operations for Small Departments (F-290) Instructor: Thomas Fuqua
Description: This 2-day course is designed to provide students with some basic tools and skills to coordinate training in a small fire/EMS organization. A training function in a smaller department typically may include conducting training drills and coordinating training with a nearby larger city or State training function.
Target Audience: Fire and rescue personnel who coordinate training in small departments, volunteer firefighters and officers who instruct in small fire and rescue departments, fire personnel serving on training committees and training officers in volunteer fire departments.

NFA Incident Safety Officer (F-279) Instructor: Steve Weissman
Description: Examines the Safety Officers role at emergency situations. Focus will be on operations within the ICS system.
Target Audience: Individuals who have a Safety Officer responsibility at emergency operation situations, persons attending this course should have a working knowledge of the ICS system, as taught by NFA, building construction principles, hazardous materials management, applicable NFPA guidelines, and Federal regulations.
