Rescue Workers Hope For Law Change

Campbell Co., VA – Not once, not twice, but three times, Campbell County rescue crews say they've responded to a call for a dead newborn baby in the last two years, and all three of those times the mother wasn't prosecuted. The latest was a week ago at a Rustburg home, and rescue workers hope that it’s the last time the death of a child goes unpunished. Off the job, EMT's Melinda Leebrick and Mandy Lundy are both mothers of infants. Making what they saw last Friday, especially disturbing. Mandy Lundy, Rustburg Rescue Squad – “We found a mother there and a baby wrapped in a pair of pants and the baby was delivered sometime before.” The baby was delivered at 1:00 AM, but EMT's weren't called for another ten hours.
