Ex-state trooper indicted on embezzling charges involving Mathews volunteer fire department funds – dailypress.com

MATHEWS – A 30-year treasurer of the Mathews Volunteer Fire Department was indicted Tuesday on two counts of embezzlement in connection with the theft of more than $100,000 from the organization in 2009.

Paul Joseph Reardon, 74, is a retired Virginia State Police trooper and well-known community volunteer in Mathews. In late December, officials from the fire department contacted the Virginia State Police about the apparent thefts.
