New Delivery – Sterling Volunteer Rescue Squad – Sterling, Virginia
By Mike Sanders
The Sterling Volunteer Rescue Squad in Loudoun County Virginia will shortly be placing into service their new Rescue 615. The order and delivery was handled by the Keplinger Repair Service Inc. of Winchester, Virginia.
Rescue 615 is a 2010 Spartan Gladiator with a SVI squad body. The Spartan Gladiator cab has a 20 inch raised roof with a unique custom built walk in compartment behind the crew cab. The SVI squad body is 26′ long. The American Flag and a tribute to FDNY adorn the sides of Rescue 615.
Other features of the new squad include a Cummins ISM-500 engine with an Allison transmission and a 30KW pto operated generator. A unique stairway leads to upper hatch compartments. On the upper sides of the squad body are rope tie offs. In addition, a Will-Burt 9000 watt light tower is housed on top of the squad.
A winch is located on the front and rear of the Spartan/SVI. The front winch is a 15,000 lb electric winch and the rear winch is a 20,000 lb hydraulic winch.
The new Rescue 615 replaces a 1990 Duplex/Saulsbury heavy squad, which is currently for sale. For additional information on the squad for sale, please contact Sterling Rescue Chief Byron Andrews at bandrews@sterlingrescue.org.

That has got to be one of the most gorgeous looking rescue rigs I’ve seen to date. I hope it serves them well.
