Roanoke Fire-EMS Responds to Campbell Ave. Fire

On March 21, 2010, Roanoke Fire-EMS responded to a structure fire at
520 Campbell Ave. The call was received in the E-911 Center at
approximately 2:09 pm and was under control at 2:17 pm. The response
of 4 engines, 2 ladder trucks, 2 medic units, 1 EMS Captain, 2
Battalion Chiefs and the Investigation Unit for a total of 27
personnel responded to the scene.

When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire showing from the
2 1/2 story multi apartment building. Crews quickly extinguished the
fire.

There were 11 people in the building when the fire started. They
escaped without any injuries. There were no injuries to civilians or
Fire-EMS personnel.

The fire was caused by improperly discarded smoking materials.
Fourteen residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
Damage estimates are approximately $45,000.
