Hopewell Responds to Suspicious Fire

Tones sounded around 3:30 a.m. for a structure fire at 16th Street and Broadway Road. A Hopewell  police officer spotted flames visible above the trees and notified emergency communications.

Responding were Hopewell Stations 1 and 2.

Scene upon arrival were heavy fire from A side.

Officials said initially an interior attack was launched but due to the worsening conditions firefighters were ordered to evacuate and a the operation switched to defensive.

Jefferson Park firefighters from Prince George assisted with the fire operation. Enon Volunteer Firefighters from Chesterfield provided fill-in coverage.

Officials said the home had been vacant for about six months and did not have utilities. Officials said it is the second suspicious fire within a few weeks.

The fire is under investigation.
