Greetings
Just for information and to
preserve the intended safety offered by Bill 108:
Regarding the Chevron which the NFPA has recommended:
Notice that the reflective tape in this image encroaches TO the luminaries.
For stop, turn signals, and tail (park) lights;
the Rep from NFPA has clarified by saying
“The committee’s general consensus is that vehicles intending to comply with NFPA 1901 and Technical Standards Document No. 108, the area for the lens and the 75 mm area [3 inch perimeter] around the lens should not be part of the calculated 50 percent of the vertical rear surface area.
The requirements for complying with both NFPA 1901 and the Technical
Standards Document No. 108 should be included in the purchase and sales specification.”
See
http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-…1999&TYPE=TEXT
which states (S5.7.1.4) that
“The edge of white sheeting shall not be located closer than 75 mm to
the edge of the luminous lens area of any red or amber lamp…”
and
“The edge of red sheeting shall not be located closer than 75 mm to the
edge of the luminous lens area of any amber lamp…”
( where white and yellow sheeting may be interchanged,
and red is excluded for use on front or “forward facing” surfaces ? )
and related 108 documentation makes no allowance for YELLOW-GREEN,
which NFPA1901 reccommend.
A durable cover tape can be used around the tail and running lights to correct this erroneous interpretation. ( Jim Bradburn from 3M recommends an overlay of Scotchcal(TM) ElectroCut(TM) Graphic Film 7725-22 in Matte Black to hide the encroaching sheeting. )

this unit is a FAIL for compliance,
and is especially dangerous when returning FROM an emergency
or when no emergency lights are operating.
Best regards.
