Annual Clark J. Deener Award Banquet Held

On Sunday, May 2nd at the National Conference Center in Lansdowne, the Loudoun County Fire-Rescue system held their annual Clark J. Deener recognition ceremony to honor persons for their length of service and outstanding contributions. One hundred fourteen members of the volunteer contingency were honored for their length of service and dedication including Shirley Flippo, Aldie Volunteer Fire for 50 years of service (photo).

Also honored were members of the combination system for their contributions to furthering the advancement of the Fire & EMS service in Loudoun County.

Recipients include:

Recognitions Award: Steve Kusterer, Leesburg Volunteer Fire & Dr. Mike Londner, Emergency Medicine Physician

Shirley Flippo recognized for 50 years of service with Aldie Volunteer Fire Company

Fire Instructor Award: Captain Kevin Stiles, LCFR

Basic Life Support Instructor: Lieutenant Aimee Gottholm, LCFR

Advanced Life Support Instructor: Dr. John Morgan, Operational Medical Director

Fire & EMS Hall of Fame:

Allie Love, Middleburg Volunteer Fire-Rescue

Jack Merritt, Purcellville Volunteer Rescue

Fred Gansel, Sterling Volunteer Rescue

Fenton Simpson, Round Hill Volunteer Fire-Rescue

George “Bud” Greenfield, Posthumus, Lucketts Volunteer Fire

Louis “Buzzy” Carter, Aldie Volunteer Fire

John C. Carr, Jr, Memorial award, the highest honor for the Fire service: Bernie J. Boteler, Aldie Volunteer Fire

Clark J. Deener award, the highest honor for the Emergency Medical Service: Bill Lyden, Sterling Volunteer Rescue

In a heartfelt and emotional closing, Doug Rambo, Loudoun County Fire-Rescue Commission Chair, expressed an appreciation on behalf of the Fire-Rescue system for Chief Joseph Pozzo’s service and dedication and wished him well in his new post as Fire chief in Volusia County, Florida. Chief Pozzo took a sincere moment at the podium, with family members by his side to thank everyone for their service and support, acknowledging that he will miss the people he served and worked with.
