New Delivery – Moorefield Station – Loudoun County
By Mike Sanders

Loudoun County’s Engine 623 operates out of the Moorefield Station in the Ashburn area of the county. Engine 623 is a 2009 Pierce Velocity equipped with a 1500 gallon per minute pump, 500 gallons of water, and a 50 gallon foam tank.

There are a couple of unique features to Engine 623. First, the engine is equipped with a Super-Chief siren, which is unusual in Loudoun County. Secondly, the headlights are round, which is also unique in the county. Other features include a Caterpillar C13 485 horsepower engine, a Allison transmission, and a 10kw Harrison generator.

That is one of the best looking, functional Engines I have ever seen. I like the position of the ladders and hard suction. The steel doors are a nice feature. I also like the steel wheels. I never liked the trend of making Engines taller and raising the roofs 20′ off the ground. Not bad Louden County, not bad.
