Chesterfield, Va. –
A seven-year effort to memorialize Chesterfield County’s fallen firefighters and paramedics culminated yesterday with cannon fire, the toll of a bell, the reedy-drone of bagpipes and a colossal American flag suspended 75 feet in the air.
The chilly rain that fell throughout the proceeding did little to dampen the spirit of the occasion, which marked the completion of a $100,000 memorial honoring fire and emergency-medical responders killed in the line of duty.
