This KME apparatus was sold by Calvin (Sput) Jones of Slagle Fire Equipment Co. in South Boston, Va.
The Clarksville Vol. Fire Department of Clarksville, Va. in Mecklenburg County recently took delivery of a new KME custom rescue pumper apparatus.
The new unit is built on a KME Predator Panther four door custom cab and chassis that is powered by a 350 horsepower MaxxForce 10 engine. For seating, there are five (5) SCBA seats in the cab with NFPA compliant seating plus an electric suspension type driver’s seat.
For fire suppression, there is a Hale QMax 1500 GPM midship pump with two (2) speedlay preconnects with slide-out hose packing trays, a 2” front bumper discharge as well as side pump panel and hose bed 2-1/2” and LDH discharges. This pump system is supplemented by a Hale Model 2.1 electronic injection type foam system and 20 gallon Class-A foam tank plumbed to selected preconnect discharges.
Supplying the fire pump, there is a 980 gallon water tank that can be quickly refilled with the 3” x 2-1/2” Fireman Friend direct tank fill located at the rear of the apparatus body.
Optimum response and on-scene protection is provided by a high output Whelen LED warning light system including an amber LED directional light bar on the rear of the body. Audible warning includes emergency air horns, 100 watt electronic siren and speaker, and a Federal Q2B mechanical siren.
For work lighting on approach to a scene, there is a Fire Research 150 watt 12 volt LED brow light on the cab roof as well as one each side recessed into the body. On scene lighting there is provided by a Smart Power 20,000 Watt hydraulic generator powered from the chassis transmission system. Power output is wired to a Hannay electric rewind cord reel with 200 feet of 10/3 cable and junction box and a Wilburt 6000 watt vertical extension type light tower is provided in the dunnage area for optimum scene illumination.
The all aluminum KME rescue style apparatus body features numerous side and rear compartments for equipment and tool storage as well as a full width primary hose bed area of over 100 cubic feet for supply hose. For storage of extrication equipment, there are 29” deep x full height compartments on the driver side of the body and 29” / 14” deep x full height compartments on the officer side. An enclosed ladder / pike pole storage compartment on the officer side of the body permits easy access to the interior from the rear of the unit. In addition, there are two enclosed storage compartments for 6” x 10’ hard suction hoses in the upper outboard areas of the body, both accessible from the rear of the vehicle. In the body fender areas, there are three compartments for storage of a total of eight air cylinders and an additional area for a slide-out 60 pound Sta-Dri hopper with top fill and bottom outlet. For potential extrication stabilization work, there are winch receivers on the front, and rear of the body for use with a portable style 9000 pound capacity electric cable winch.
The KME body was outfitted with customized shelving, trays, tool boards, etc. within in the body compartments for mounting of the fire department’s engine and extrication equipment. The hydraulic extrication system includes a Hurst 240 volt Simo pump and a hydraulic hose reel with 100 feet of hose in the officer side dunnage area as well as a “standpipe” connection in a recessed hose well located in the front bumper area. A full set of Rescue 42 struts and assorted cribbing is carried for vehicle stabilization. In addition, there is a set of low pressure and high pressure Vetter air bags carried in the primary hose bed area beneath the hinged aluminum hose bed cover system.
The Clarksville Vol. Fire Department provides first alarm coverage to the southeaster area of Mecklenburg County with mutual aid agreements to both Halifax County in Virginia and Granville County in North Carolina along the Buggs Island Lake.
