During the evening hours of a rainy Tuesday, Duty Crew 2 was dispatched for an auto accident near the intersection of South King Street and Clubhouse Drive in Southwest Leesburg. Wagon 601 responded and found a two vehicle accident. One of the vehicles had ended up in a drainage culvert and the driver of that vehicle was trapped in the vehicle. Truck 601 arrived on the scene to handle the extrication duties (yes, ladder trucks can be extrication pieces). The two crews worked in difficult conditions, contending with slippery, muddy terrain as they removed the roof and driver’s door from a late model Mustang Cobra. The patient was transferred to Medic 613 for ground transport to Fairfax Hospital.
Deputy Chief 601 (Cook) had command, while Captain Blaylock, Lt. Hilton and Lt. Mullen led crews in the extrication operation. Mount Weather Truck 621 filled Station 20 while Truck 601 was committed to the rescue.
