K9 LODD Honored at 2011 Virginia Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service

By Becky Robinette Wright

On June 4 at RIR complex seven fallen firefighters were honored and this year K9s who have given their lives in service were also remembered.

Also on hand to show their support were members of K-9 Alert, Richmond Fire and Emergency Services and Virginia Task Force 2.

It was a golden opportunity for the public and members of the fire service to have direct contact with the search and rescue and arson dogs. It was also an opportunity for the dogs to have experience at a fire event.

The dogs were an instant hit and handlers had many opportunities to explain the dog’s part in rescue work.

The dogs honored were:

Lieutenant “Win” Winters of Virginia Task Force 2, a 7 year-old Malinios

Bailey of City of Richmond Department of Fire and Emergency Services –Bailey was 13 years-old

Duke of K-9 Alert Search and Rescue
