WOODBRIDGE, Va. –

A former chief of the Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton Volunteer Fire Department died Tuesday at Washington Hospital Center after a brief illness.

Richard “Ricky” Arrington, 55, known at OWL as “Chief Rick,” joined the department as a junior in 1973 and worked his way up to chief, according to OWL spokeswoman Rebecca Barnes.  He served as chief for nearly two decades before stepping down as chief in 2009.
