Roanoke Firefighters Battle Fire in Southeast

Roanoke City Firefighters were called out to a morning residential fire just after shift break. The smoke column from the fire could be seen from miles away. The fire was called in at around 7:40am in the 1100 block of 6th Street Southeast.

Engine 1, 6, and 8, Ladder 1, and a medic Unit responded to contain the fire.

Firefighters had to move to a defensive attack after trying to contain it from the interior. There are reports of the occupants being inside when the fire started but getting out before firefighters arrived.

It is reported that one of the homeowners was injured as well as one firefighter was transported to the hospital.
