Henrico Division of Fire firefighters had an interesting call on Christmas Day this year.

The video description: My sister Carter was playing a game with my cousin Lydia. Carter had handcuffs and used them on Lydia. Apparently there was never a key to the cuffs. This led to us visiting the fire station on Christmas day to get the handcuffs cut off.

I am sure the firefighters will tell this story each Christmas in the future!

On December 15th, Richmond Firefighters fought a small fire in the second floor apartment fire in the 800 block of North Boulevard.

In March, 1978, Hadden Culp walked into his first fire station in Prince William County, excited to receive brand new turnout gear.

“I remember taking it home and showing everybody my gear. Pretty proud,” Culp says.

Talking to Culp, it’s obvious the now-assistant chief and fire marshal is just as proud today as he retires.

“I feel like I haven’t had to work a day in my career. It’s been so much fun,” he says of his 33 years and nearly as many job duties.

About 7:40am, 40 minutes after shift change Wagon 611, Engine 601 (on loan from Leesburg VFC, and Tower 611 were alerted along with Engine 611 (all from Sterling), Reserve Engine 606, Tower 606 (all from Ashburn VFRD), Rescue Squad 439 from Fairfax (Reston), Ambulance 625-3 (Sterling Rescue), and Battalion Chiefs 601 and 603 from LCFR for an apartment fire on Reserve Falls Terrace in Sterling.

Initial callers reported a deck on fire. Wagon 611 (from station 618) arrived on scene to report fire on two floors and spreading. They began an exterior attack to slow the spread. Battalion 601 arrived, established command and called for a second alarm. This brought units from throughout the area. While Wagon 611 was working on the exterior Engines 622, 601, and Tower 611 began preparations for an interior attack and searching for occupants. As the roof of the building became unstable units were pulled outside, returning after exterior efforts extinguished the bulk of the fire. Units continued to search for and extinguish fire that had spread throughout the building.

Initial investigation suggests the cause was improperly discarded smoking materials.

Dominic Tabb, a 911 Dispatcher for the City of Richmond was killed in a vehicle accident with a bus. Dominic was riding his motorcycle and collided with a Richmond school bus at the intersection of Terminal Avenue and Lanewood Drive.

Dominic was named the Communications Officer of the Year in 2009.

LAKE RIDGE, Va. –

A woman suffered serious burns, and two others were injured trying to rescue her, in a fire on Caledonia Circle on Thursday afternoon.

The fire was reported about 3:45 p.m. in a townhouse community off Hedges Run Drive.

Five people were home when the blaze broke out. Two escaped and called 911. Two others tried to rescue a woman trapped on the third floor, said Prince William County fire and rescue Battalion Chief Joe Robertsonsaid.

A span of 24 hours kept firefighters busy with 5 separate fires in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Newport News, and Portsmouth on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. One firefighter was injured in the church fire in Chesapeake. The fire happened on Wednesday.

WVEC.com:

In Chesapeake, a church on Campostella Road was badly damaged around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. A firefighter was treated for minor injuries.

Two apartment fires in the Cave Spring area of Roanoke County have killed one, injured another, and killed two dogs.

The first fire at The Pines apartment complex off of Sussex Court left one man dead and injured his wife. The couple lived in a ground level apartment. Investigators have determined that an apartment fire that claimed the life of one man and sent a woman to a local hospital early this morning was caused by a misuse of smoking materials.

When firefighters arrived, they searched the apartment and found the elderly couple. Once brought outside, it was determined the man was already deceased. The woman was treated by paramedics and transported to a local hospital for potentially life threatening injuries, but is now expected to survive.

This video was uploaded on June 17, 2011. I am not exactly sure what day it occurred.

Norfolk firefighters arrived to find a vehicle fire that had spread to two other vehicles.

No further information was available.

On Wednesday, an HRT bus caught fire and burned at the 1800 block of Laskin Road around 8:30 am. The fire was caught on video.

When the bus caught fire there were 9 people on board. All were able to get to safety without injury. The bus was destroyed in the fire.

HANOVER, VA (WWBT) – There was a massive house fire in Mechanicsville Monday night. The fire broke out around 7:30 p.m. in the 7300 block of Highlander Place – just off Walnut Grove Road. One home was destroyed another damaged. Neighbors were out here just as the fire broke out and capture video on their cell phones.
