Virginia Fire News Magazine
Virginia Fire News Magazine and VAFireNews.com are two seperate entities and are not affiliated directly with each other.
The Virginia Fire News magazine is a bi-monthly publication covering the fire and EMS services of Virginia. The magazine has been in production since 1993, and it is the only magazine covering the fire and EMS systems in the Commonwealth that is delivered on a regular basis. The magazine is 64 pages in length and is printed in full color. There is a special emphasis on fire apparatus, including new deliveries, current in service rigs, and antique or former Virginia vehicles. Department or station profiles are our specialty. Also covered are working fires or incidents and current issues in the fire and EMS fields. A very popular feature is the “Apparatus On Order” section where we list, to our knowledge, all the trucks that have been purchased and are scheduled for delivery. Equally popular is the “Recent Delivery” column where all the deliveries for the past two months are listed.

Jerry Puryear, publisher of the Virginia Fire News magazine is a retired school teacher. He has experience in both the fire and EMS realms. From 1963 to 1975, he served as a volunteer in the Henrico County Division of Fire system. When the county went to an all career department, he moved to the Lakeside Volunteer Rescue Squad where he has served as an EMT and squad leader. Currently, he is a driver with the squad. Since childhood, the fire service has been his passion. He attends numerous parades and functions yearly. He also travels the state visiting fire stations and gathering information for the magazine. In 1993, he began the Virginia Fire Services Newsletter as a two sheet of paper copied document that was mailed to 100 of his friends. During the past 14 years, the publication has exploded into the full color, 64 page magazine it is today.
